Q & A with McKinney Pediatric Dentist, Dr. Tim Brister, DDS

Dr. Tim Brister has a newly established pediatric dental practice in McKinney.  Dr. Brister is Texas born and raised.  A graduate of Baylor College of Dentistry, he received advanced training in the treatment of children in Iowa, having recently received his specialty certifications in pediatric dentistry and public health.  He and his wife Heather now make McKinney their home.   I recently had the opportunity to visit with him.

Dr. Shannon: “Dr. Brister, what exactly does it mean to be a pediatric dentist?”
Dr. Brister:  “We are the ‘pediatricians’ of dentistry.  Pediatric dentists are primary and specialty caregivers for kids from birth through high school.”

Dr. Shannon: “Why did you decide to locate your practice in McKinney?”
Dr. Brister: “Heather and I decided it was time to move back home to Texas.  McKinney appealed to us because of its growth and number of ‘small mouths’”.

Dr. Shannon: “Do you have a particular area of interest in pediatrics?”
Dr. Brister: “Yes, prevention.  As a profession, I believe that dentists must strive to stop this circle of disease.  That means starting with mothers when the kids are young and disease-free, not waiting until they are 4 years old.”

Dr. Shannon: “How do you like to spend your free time?”
Dr. Brister: “When time and my wife allow, I enjoy camping.  I’m also restoring a 1953 Chevrolet.”

Dr. Shannon: “OK, important question – what’s your favorite food?”
Dr. Brister: “Mexican food, of course, especially chimichangas!”

Dr. Shannon: “Finally, tell me something that most people don’t know about you.”
Dr. Brister: “My middle name.  It’s a family name and a closely guarded secret because I’ve always been embarrassed by it.  Murl – yes, Murl.  But you can call me Dr. Tim.”

Thank you Dr. Murl, er, I mean Dr. Tim.  Dr. Brister can be reached at Texas Pediatric Dentistry, 3109 S. Custer Road, Suite 300, in McKinney.  You can also visit him at www.TexasPediatricDentistry.com or call his office at (972) 542-6662 to schedule an appointment.

At Shannon DentalCare we recommend the services of a pediatric dentist for any child under 5 years of age.  Children older than five often do well in a general dental practice, but under special circumstances may require the services of a pediatric specialist.
